James Suckling - jamessuckling.com, May 2013
This is structured and firm with a gravel, currant and berry character. Full and chewy. Needs at least another two or three years of bottle age.

Aged for 12 months in 35% new oak barrels. Located in the more urban area of Pessac on the outskirts of Bordeaux just north of Chateau Pape-Clement Picque Caillou makes wine from 21 hectares. As "caillou" means "pebble" in French the soil here is stony gravel. This has a high-toned nose of blackberry fruit tons of spice a big dollop of black licorice and a touch of smoke. Complex in the mouth with spice saline and minerality it is an impressive red from this small estate. The finish last for a minute and turns velvety on the tongue. Very alluring.
