Deep but reticent nose hints at licorice and underbrush. Then surprisingly layered and creamy in the mouth with cherry and redcurrant fruit complemented by dark Belgian chocolate and licorice. No easy sweetness here but plenty rich. Finishes with suave fine-grained tannins and some chocolatey oak that will take time to harmonize with the wine. This fruit and the Clos de Beze were picked on the first two days of October.

A brooding and very restrained red and black pinot fruit nose also offers up hints of earth and some minerality that give way to supple elegant and attractively refined medium-bodied flavors that are supported by unusually fine-grained tannins all wrapped in a finale that is balanced and impressively long. There is a touch of wood on the finish but it should be integrated quickly. This is a classic Chapelle of finesse and harmony. Don't miss!
