A softly wooded nose where there is a touch of toast frames earthy reticent and ripe aromas of pungent earth dark berry fruit and plum. There is excellent concentration to the velvety and mouth coating large-scaled flavors that possess an abundance of dry extract indeed to the point that this seems less structured than it really is though it's not so much that the hallmark youthful austerity of a fine Clos de Vougeot is effaced. As would be expected from this terroir in an excellent vintage this will require plenty of cellar time to resolve the tannins and flesh out but it should be more than worth the wait.

Drou-hin owns two parcels a total of 2.25 acres in Clos de Vougeot on a slight incline facing east. In 2010 this was vinified with a large portion of whole bunches the vintage yielding a wine of power and grace formed in a seemingly perfect sphere. The vibrant color parallels the brightness of the flavor its red berry freshness preserved in floral scents and a gentle touch of earthiness that reverberates underneath. A classic.

The 2010 Clos de Vougeot bursts onto the palate with unbridled energy and class. Sweet floral and spiced notes develop in the glass adding depth and complexity but the 2010 remains a wine defined by its textural brilliance and verve. An understated polished finish rounds things out in style. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. -Antonio Galloni
