The lovely 2010 Petits Monts from Domaine Georges Noëllat was raised in fifty percent new oak and was showing quite well at the time of my visit in March wafting from the glass in a complex blend of red and black cherries coffee bean dark soil tones woodsmoke a nice touch of fresh nutmeg and plenty of spicy new oak. On the palate the wine is deep fullish and very pure on the attack with impressive minerality fine mid-palate depth and a very long ripely tannic and tangy finish. Today the wine is a bit marked by its wood on the backend but there is plenty of stuffing to eventually absorb these wood tannins and the wine should be excellent with eight to ten years of bottle age. There are eight barrels of Petits Monts in the cellars in 2010- four of which were new. A very good example of this great terroir. 2019-2040+. 91+.
