Highly perfumed aromas of raspberry cocoa powder mint and cumin. At once sweet and sharply delineated with a distinctly high pitch and a light touch to the flavors of dark berries dusty spices and flowers. Particularly explosive on the back half finishing with steadily building flavor and firm tannins that reach the front teeth. This one makes the Beaux-Monts look oaky by comparison.

If anything this is even spicier than the Beaux Monts with a similar black pinot fruit component though here the minerality is replaced by a touch of menthol. There is superb richness to the velvety and mouth coating flavors that possess a notably suave mouth feel all wrapped in an impressively persistent finish. The firm but not prominent tannins should enable this to enjoy 10 to 12 years of upside development potential.

Winery

Roche de Bellene, Maison

Maison Roche de Bellene is a negociant business in Burgundy launched in 2009 by Nicolas Potel, the owner of Domaine de Bellene. The business offers only the finest wines in limited cuvees to achieve its goal: to be the only “Haute Couture" negociant in Burgundy. Grapes are sourced from the same growers that Nicolas has been working with the last 15 years, who are either BIO certified or practice sustainable farming methods. The range of wines includes the widest selection of Grand Crus, prestige cuvees and individual terroirs from old vines both the Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits.

Bellene comes from the name “Belenos”, an ancient Gallic god of sun and beauty similar to Apollon to the Greeks and to the god of the sun to the Celtic. Beaune City was named “Belena” during the Roman period and “Bellene” in the Middle Ages.
