Ripe red and dark berry scents are complicated by notes of garrigue and licorice. Lush sappy black raspberry and mulberry flavors are lifted by a zesty mineral note and a hint of cracked pepper. Shows good heft and finishes with sweet clinging red fruit character. Lots of power here but this wine is carrying no excess poundage.

Much more serious, and a big, structured effort, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape has loads of minerality, pepper and garrigue to go with a core of blackberry-styled fruit. Possessing plenty of ripe tannin, good mid-palate concentration and superb focus on the finish, it will benefit from short-term cellaring and have over two decades of longevity. - Jeb Dunnuck

A classically styled Châteauneuf-du-Pape the 2010 Clos du Mont-Olivet Châteauneuf-du-Pape - tasted out of foudre and a blend of roughly 80% Grenache 10% Syrah 6% Mourvèdre and the rest an assortment of permitted varieties... A classically styled Châteauneuf-du-Pape the 2010 Clos du Mont-Olivet Châteauneuf-du-Pape - tasted out of foudre and a blend of roughly 80% Grenache 10% Syrah 6% Mourvèdre and the rest an assortment of permitted varieties - shows plenty of promise with deep edgy minerality that's backed by beautifully ripe dense fruit medium to full body and a structured firm feel that will need a handful of years to fully flesh out. It should be an outstanding wine with 15+ years of longevity.
