He actually tells me that he prefers the wines as two separate expressions rather than one blended wine. This was a result he did not expect since he was used to tasting them together. The Torriglione does stand out with its own character thanks to the extra firmness it shows in the mouth. This wine has great potential for long aging. Drink: 2017-2035. - Monica Larner

A decadent and sexy red with meat, berry and hints of cedar. Some tobacco too. It's full-bodied, chewy and powerful. Needs at least five years to soften. Great wine. Better in 2018.

The 2010 Barolo Riserva Vecchie Viti di Torriglione impresses for its depth and pure, centered core of fruit. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, menthol and licorice notes flesh out over time in the glass. This is one of the more voluptuous, generous wines in the range. Today, the Torriglione gives the impression of roundness and generosity that suggests it will drink well early, even if it is only bottled in magnum. -- Antonio Galloni
