Burghound, April 2012

This is completely overwhelmed by its wood from the nose to the finish and while there is good density it's not at all clear that this will ever completely integrate the extremely generous oak. What concerns me even more...

Maison Roche de Bellene is a negociant business in Burgundy launched in 2009 by Nicolas Potel, the owner of Domaine de Bellene. The business offers only the finest wines in limited cuvees to achieve its goal: to be the only “Haute Couture" negociant in Burgundy. Grapes are sourced from the same growers that Nicolas has been working with the last 15 years, who are either BIO certified or practice sustainable farming methods. The range of wines includes the widest selection of Grand Crus, prestige cuvees and individual terroirs from old vines both the Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits.

Bellene comes from the name “Belenos”, an ancient Gallic god of sun and beauty similar to Apollon to the Greeks and to the god of the sun to the Celtic. Beaune City was named “Belena” during the Roman period and “Bellene” in the Middle Ages.

Griottes-Chambertin is a 2.65 hectare, Grand Cru Pinot Noir vineyard within Gevrey-Chambertin.
