Fresh and floral on the nose with dark cherry and dried strawberry undertones. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a mineral and spicy finish. Cedar and cocoa powder too. Complex and delicious as well as delicate at the same time. Drink or hold.

A mix of cherry, blackberry, leather and tobacco flavors, this red has an underlying mineral streak and formidable tannins. Veers toward the dry side of the spectrum on the finish, yet there is enough sweet fruit to keep this from going off the rails. Best from 2019 through 2035. – BS

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a fabulous wine that offers a noticeable level of softness and fruitiness that is not always easy to find in Brunello. These qualities are even more surprising given the austerity and the power that is associated with wines from this vintage. Instead, La Fornace offers a slightly more playful interpretation with bold cherry backed by blackberry pie and sweet baking spice. This Riserva should hold ten years or more. - Monica Larner
