Wow a spectacular Shiraz and possibly the wine of the vintage the 2010 Glaetzer Shiraz Amon-Ra Barossa Valley is 100% dry-grown Shiraz that was aged for 16 months in 100% new oak (95% French and 5% American). It sports knockout aromatics of creamy blackberry plum smoked bacon coffee and spice that just soar from the glass. Classic aromatically with textbook Barossa qualities the quality shines just as much on the palate where the wine is full-bodied perfectly textured and rich with a savory mid-palate ripe chewy tannin and a clean finish. This impresses all around and is hard to fault. While spectacular now it deserves 3-4 years in the cellar and will shine for two decades.

Produced from 100% Shiraz the 2010 Amon-Ra displays a deep purple-black color and aromas of cedar baking spices lavender chocolate and vanilla over a core of creme de cassis black cherry pie and dried plums. Very full bodied and densely packed with layered warm berry earth and spice flavors it has a solid backbone of medium to firm fine grained tannins and crisp acid finishing long with some hints of dried Provence herbs and black pepper coming through. Consider drinking it 2014 to 2024+. 95+ - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

A dark brooding and dense wine delivering dried cherry carpaccio and spice flavors which linger on the broad finish. Has layers and layers of depth all balled up and waiting to open with time. Best from 2014 through 2020.

Big Christmas cake aromas exotic spice and dark wild berry fruit fragrances mocha sweet wood; plenty happening here - you wallow in the mass of the bouquet as it ain't perfume per se. The palate is slippery layered and deep - totally mouth-coating no nook untouched. Formidable dark-dark berry fruit flavours warm garam masala spice creamy vanillin oak layers of flavour and omnipresence that is undeniable. There is freshness too. And a trimming via acidity spice and svelte tannins that keeps the wine in its bold but honed shape. Many will relish such a wickedly alluring wine that toes the line between serious monster and intellectual confusion. Of place? Perhaps. Is that the quest or is seduction? A fine wine for it's style no doubt but a glass will do for me. 93+

Hung meat iodine and spice on the nose. Focused in the mouth with judicious use of oak. A compact wine of real force yet never falls to the wayside of excess despite its obvious power. A compact wine of real force yet never falls to the wayside of excess despite its obvious power. Don't know how much I could drink but the wine is balanced. Drink now and over the next five years.

This is a shiraz from vineyards in Ebenezer a northern district of Barossa with significant assets of ancient dry-farmed bush vines. Soft notes of black cherry and leather lend this wine its charm a smooth blend with sunny brightness in the fruit. It comes across as bold honeyed and rich rather than sweet. For braised meats.

Understated at first the bouquet opens up with air to slowly reveal more nuance and complexity. Pure aromas of blackberry jam mingle with hints of bittersweet chocolate mint and calamata olive. Not overt or exuberant there is a sense of sophistication here that carries through to the beautifully balanced palate where the flavors are intense yet elegantly proportioned with seamlessly integrated textures already apparent. The barest hint of tannin combines with graphite minerals to form a fine undercurrent of structure on the finish. Beautifully poised now it is easy to get the impression that the wine is currently holding back. This should strut its stuff with air in the short term or with 2-3 years in the bottle while easily cellaring for up to 20 years. A classic in the making! Tasted from a bottle that had just landed in the US.
