Wine Spectator, March 2011

An elegant high-toned style with violet and incense aromas leading the way followed by more suave blackberry and black cherry sauce notes. SIlky and pure with subtle length on the finish. -J.M.

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, March 2011

A blend of 85% Merlot and 18-20% Cabernet Franc This has a quite strict bouquet with blackberry briary and a touch of gravel on the nose. Good delineation. The palate has a firm tannic entry; quite masculine but nicely...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May 2011

The biggest production cuvee from creative/innovative proprietor and wine producer Jonathan Malthus Teyssier can make as much as 15000 cases. It is a property on the wrong side of the road so to speak in St.-Emilion near...

Wine Enthusiast, June 2011

Smooth opulent with tannins firmly buried in the sweet acidity. Black plum juice flavors go with the ripe fruits and just a touch of spice.

Some berry and fresh herb character with medium body and medium chewy tannins. Slightly hollow center palate but very attractive.

Chateau Teyssier, in the heart of the Saint Emilion appellation, dates back to the 1700’s. In 1994, it was acquired by Jonathan Maltus, an Englishman by way of South Africa, and a pioneer in the 'garagiste' revolution of the 1990's.

When Maltus acquired the property, the vineyard was just fourteen acres and the estate was in need of renovation. Today, Teyssier is nearly ten times its former size and has a state-of-the-art winery. A large part of the vineyards are situated amongst Cru Classe terroir on the hills hugging the village of Saint Emilion.

The Chateau produces eight Saint-Emilion wines, ranging from the estate wines Chateau Teyssier and Chateau Laforge, as well as limited-release single vineyard wines Le Dome, Le Carre, Les Asteries, and Vieux Chateau Mazerat. Maltus has also ventured into Napa Valley, with single-vineyard wines produced under the World's End label.

Chateau Teyssier is one of the largest selling Saint Emilion Grand Crus. The wine is made to high standards using the same equipment and methods that are used for the estate’s top-end single vineyard wines.

It is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc from a number of parcels based in the South West plain of the Saint Emilion appellation. This soil/terroir being mainly sand over, in certain areas, crasse de fer (iron deposits) helps make the wine approachable.
