Smooth and velvety, this is modest in scope, but nicely detailed with cherry, espresso and delicate spice flavors that linger effortlessly. Drink now through 2018. 1,000 cases made. –HS

Intense red berry and cherry aromas of impressive clarity are complemented by notes of licorice, allspice and floral oils. Sappy, focused and appealing sweet on the palate, offering red berry preserve and rose pastille flavors braced by a note of blood orange. The zesty finish features slow-mounting tannins and outstanding, floral- and spice-driven persistence. - Josh Raynolds

This is really quite pretty with a mix of both upper and lower register red and dark orchard fruit aromas that exhibit additional breadth in the form of anise, sandalwood and dried violets. There is good volume and focused power to the solidly well-concentrated middle weight plus flavors that deliver fine depth and excellent length on the balanced, dusty and ever-so-mildly austere finish. Good stuff and well worth considering.

Fraise du bois and wild cherry; rose petal and brown spices scent the Bergstrom 2011 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard, with tart-edged, generously juicy red berry fruit following on a palate significantly starched with tannin. There is impressive penetration and persistence here, along with saline and smoked meat savor that sets me salivating, and helps also to assuage the tannins. This should prove fascinating to follow through at least 2022. - David Schildknecht
