Decanter, June 2021

The 2011 Ducru-Beaucaillou is simply gorgeous with both profound and complex aromas of toast, smoke, dark berries, blackcurrant, spices with a perfectly integrated oaky frame. For the vintage, this is a structured wine...

Almost as much tannin as in 2010 in terms of analysis, because this was a dry year, with small berries. Touch of smoked herbs, dry leaf, fennel and liqourice, along with plentiful cassis and bilberry fruit. This still...

View From The Cellar, March 2012

The 2011 Ducru-Beaucaillou is one of the best wines on the Left Bank in this vintage, with a sense of completeness and refined balance that is fairly rare in this difficult vintage. The superb nose jumps from the glass in...

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, April 2012

The Grand Vin is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot that is being aged in 95% new oak. It has a broody introspective bouquet compared to the 2009 and 2010 as one would expect although it is well defined with...

The Wine Independent, September 2023

The 2011 Ducru-Beaucaillou, 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Merlot, is deep garnet in color. It scoots out of the glass with up-front notes of blackcurrant jelly, Morello cherries, and mulberries, followed by hints of wild...

Vinous, July 2022

The 2011 Ducru-Beaucaillou was an early-picked vintage, 5-18 September, but has the same analysis as the 2009 and 2010 in terms of IPT. Matured in 90% new oak for 18 months, it has a very well defined bouquet with intense...

Wine Enthusiast, May 2014

Despite the huge weight of fruit and accompanying structure, this is a stylish wine. It's impressively dense, concentrated and solid. At the same time, the juicy black fruits give a generous, full-in-the-mouth character...

Wine Spectator, March 2014

This is rather well-endowed for the vintage, with thickly layered ganache, currant paste, fig sauce and blackberry confiture notes still grappling with one another, while briary grip and dark spice fill out the...

jamessuckling.com, February 2014

This shows excellent aromas of crushed berries, minerals and roses. Full body with silky, balanced tannins. Fruity and reserved. Shows wonderful finesse for the Médoc in 2011. Better after 2018.

Cigar box, underbrush, blackberries, flowers, and lead pencil show in the nose. On the palate, the wine is ready to go with its soft, polished, sweet red plum and currant core of fruits. Charming in style, with loads of...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2020

Deep garnet colored, the 2011 Ducru-Beaucaillou features fragrant notes of underbrush, tilled soil, tree bark and fungi over a core of red currant jelly, preserved plums, cassis and mulberries. Medium-bodied, elegant...

Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful large stones that characterize its unique Saint-Julien terroir. Unusual for Bordeaux, it is one of the only castles to be built directly above the barrel cellars and one of the few estates producing a ‘Grand Cru Classe’ still inhabited by its owners. The Borie family has owned this estate and has lived here for over sixty years, in the sumptuous aromas of their wine.

Rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Ducru sits on an exceptional site with incomparable views over the Gironde estuary. Its 75-hectare vineyard is planted 70% to Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% to Merlot with an average vine age of 35 years.

Today, the estate is managed by the company Jean Eugene Borie SA, which is owned by Mrs. Borie, her daughter Sabine Coiffe and her son Bruno-Eugene.

Ducru-Beaucaillou is a fine, elegant, and delicious wine with a long finish - in short, an archetypal Saint-Julien. The grapes are hand-picked, and the sorting process takes place on mobile tables in the vineyard to keep the healthy grapes separate from substandard ones. Fermentation is by traditional techniques and only the best fruit is used to produce the wine.

The 2011 Ducru Beaucaillou is a Bordeaux Blend from the prestigious St Julien region in Bordeaux, France. This elegant red wine is crafted by the esteemed producer Ducru Beaucaillou, known for their commitment to quality and tradition.

In the glass, the wine exhibits a deep garnet color, with a bright ruby/violet rim that hints at its youthful vibrancy. The nose is captivating, with aromas of black cherry, baking chocolate, and boysenberry emerging from the glass. These complex aromatics are complemented by subtle notes of black fruit, coffee, and chocolate, creating a truly enticing bouquet.

On the palate, the wine showcases impressive density, concentration, and solid structure. Despite its weight, it maintains a sense of style and finesse. The juicy black fruits provide a generous, full-in-the-mouth character that is both satisfying and elegant. The tannins are well-integrated, falling right into place and adding to the wine's overall balance.

This Ducru Beaucaillou vintage has received high praise from wine experts, with Wine Enthusiast awarding it a score of 94. They describe it as a stylish wine, impressively dense and concentrated, with a generous and full character. They recommend enjoying this very fine wine from 2022.

Additional reviews from respected publications such as Wine Spectator, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, and Vinous further highlight the exceptional quality of this wine. They praise its power, balance, and longevity, making it one of the top wines of the Left Bank.

With an alcohol content of 13.0%, this wine embodies the essence of a classic Bordeaux Blend. Its medium-bodied profile, silky tannins, and refreshing acidity make it a pleasure to drink. While it can be enjoyed now, it has the potential to age gracefully, rewarding those who cellar it for several more years.

In conclusion, the 2011 Ducru Beaucaillou is a remarkable wine that showcases the best of St Julien. Its combination of elegance, concentration, and balance make it a true standout in the vintage. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for the future, this wine is sure to impress even the most discerning wine enthusiasts.
