There is nothing about this complete and generously filled wine that remotely suggests that it came from a difficult vintage, and it is absolutely bursting with very deep, fully ripened, varietally precise, curranty fruit that is more than a match for its equally generous measure of sweet oak. It is big without being bulky, and it is very well-balanced for the fairly beamy wine that it is. It reaches past simple ripeness and shows a touch of Cabernet’s discreet, loamy, dark soil complexity even now, and it is certain to show a good deal more when allowed to age for the five to eight years it deserves.
