(JD 90-93 points) I was able to taste through 4 different samples of André’s 2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with each showing plenty of texture, depth and richness. The odds are that there will not be a Centenaire, so this cuvee should benefit from the inclusion of the old vine Grenache from the Farguerol lieu-dit, which was easily my favorite. All of the samples possessed perfumed, Provencal aromatics, medium to full-body, and the upfront suppleness of the vintage. The base cuvee will most likely be an outstanding wine that will be approachable on release, yet age surprisingly well given its overall balance and harmony.

A ripe, voluptuous effort that shows the vintage nicely, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape was the only Chateauneuf produced by Brunel in the vintage, so it received the grapes that would normally go into the cuvee Centenaire. Mostly tank-aged Grenache (there's 17% Mourvedre and 13% Syrah and other permitted varieties), it offers sexy and upfront notes of kirsch, truffle, crushed rocks and raspberries to go with sweet tannin, medium-bodied richness and a forward, ready-to-go profile. Not quite as impressive as I remember right on release, it's still an outstanding wine that will deliver ample pleasure over the coming 5-6+ years. - Jeb Dunnuck

Les Cailloux is a traditional-style Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with only the small Syrah component being aged in barrel. The 80% Grenache speaks the loudest, bursting with cherry fruit, dried spice and crushed stone notes that come to a refined, silky finish. Drink now–2025.
