Intense aromas of melon and yellow apple are brightened by lemon zest and floral nuances. Juicy and elegant, with powerful orange zest and orchard fruit flavors balanced by vibrant acidity. The orange note lingers on the long, sappy, very persistent finish. I really like this wine's blend of richness and vivacity.

Crushed rocks, minerals and smoke dominate, followed by jasmine and white stone fruits. There is a lot of cut and focus, but here, too, readers will have to be patient. Often a bigger, broader wine, in 2011 the Sweeney Canyon is quite inward. Superb finesse and complexity more than make up for that. Sadly, this is the last vintage for the Sweeney Canyon, the only wine Brewer-Clifton has made without interruption from 1996 to 2011.

Abundant tropical fruit aromas jump from the glass of this evolved 2011 Chardonnay. With terrific acidity along with plenty of pineapple, white peach and mango-like fruit, medium to full body, 14.5% natural alcohol and a rich, textured mouthfeel, it should drink well for a decade or more. - Robert M.
