The 2011 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (which goes through a relatively early malolactic) has a focused toffee apple, apricot blossom and wax resin bouquet. There is even a suggestion of licorice that lends it another dimension. The palate is well-balanced and very pure on the entry with subtle notes of dried apricot and lime, a twist of sour lemon and a long, harmonious finish. A masterful take on the 2011 vintage, this balances chewy density with the laser-sharp mineral cut of acidity. It shows its oak and some peppery warmth of alcohol, two elements that should gain integration with bottle age. There’s a powerful wine here waiting to emerge.

Very smoky, this white displays a floral aroma and core flavors of lemon, pear and stone. Intense without being heavy, focused by driving acidity. Shows excellent length and clarity on the finish. Best from 2015 through 2024. – BS
