Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Canet 2011 from Etienne Sauzet has a crisp and defined bouquet with chalk dust, fresh green apple and flint scents that express more vigor than Jacques Carillon’s example. The palate is medium-bodied with penetrating citrus fruit, a stony core and a focused, convincing finish that lingers in the mouth. This is a very well-crafted Puligny premier cru from Sauzet. - Neal Martin

This rich, supple white shows a laser-like focus, with lemon, apple, floral and mineral flavors. Balanced on the racy side, revealing subtle oak nuances. Best from 2016 through 2025. – BS

Bright lemony acidity enlivens the tactile flavors of citrus, spices, flowers, minerals and white pepper. Finishes backward and quite dry, with a saline quality dusting the palate. I particularly like the wine's smoky mineral tension. This cuvee is the domain's largest premier cru, comprising three ages of vines, including the estate's oldest. 92+
