This is very lively and intense, with wonderful energy and brightness. Full body with wonderful finesse. It goes on for minutes. What an amazing finish. It shows dried mangoes, lemons, apples and pineapples, but so lively...

Wine Spectator, May 2014

Lovely, with lemon curd, verbena, tarragon, salted butter, gooseberry and quinine notes that are seamless and very long. The finely beaded acidity is well-meshed throughout, leading to a lingering, mouthwatering echo. A...

Wine Enthusiast, May 2014

While the wine has the natural herbaceousness of Sauvignon Blanc, it also has weight, minerality and a tight, nervy texture. Great fruit flavors are developing, but will take time. Drink from 2017. ROGER VOSS

Chateau Margaux is a famous wine estate in the Medoc region, which along with Lafite, Latour and Haut Brion, was rated a First Growth in the original 1855 Bordeaux Classification. It covers 262 hectares, of which 82 hectares are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, and 12 hectares to Sauvignon Blanc.

In the 12th century, the property was called “La Mothe de Margaux” (the Margaux mound) and by the 16th century, wine was being produced at the estate. In 1705, the London Gazette advertised the first auction of 230 barrels of “Margose” and the 1771 vintage was the first “claret” to appear in a Christie’s catalogue. Indeed one of America’s Founding Fathers and vintner in his own right, Thomas Jefferson, visited this great estate in the late 18th century and declared it to be a vineyard of “first quality”. When Bertrand Douat, Marquis de la Colonilla, acquired the estate, he built the chateau that is often nicknamed the “Versailles of the Medoc”, a rare example of the neo-palladian style in France.

Andre Mentzelopoulos purchased the property in 1977, investing heavily in the estate and a program of improvements. Since his death in 1980, the property has been run by his daughter Corinne who continued his work in restoring the chateau to its former glory.

The 2011 Chateau Margaux Pavillon Blanc, a classic Bordeaux Blanc, is a testament to the winemaking prowess of Chateau Margaux. This French white, originating from the esteemed Bordeaux region and more specifically the Margaux sub-region, is a paragon of elegance and grace.

As Geoffrey Binder from JJ Buckley puts it, it is an "exciting wine showing sauvignon blanc characteristics of lemon peel gooseberry white grapefruit and orange peel veering into fatter notes of melon." This intricacy of flavor is beautifully balanced with a moderate acidity, leading to a clean and lively finish that lingers on the palate. The exotic tropical flavors of passion fruit and orange marmalade intermingle with the freshness of lemony acidity, making it a truly delightful experience.

The Pavillon Blanc is distinguished by its great fruit intensity, as noted by Neal Martin of Neal Martin's Wine Journal. The "yellow plum, vanilla custard creams and a touch of guava" are all wrapped up in crisp acidity, resulting in a harmonious finish.

James Suckling goes a step further, referring to the wine as "very lively and intense, with wonderful energy and brightness." The full-bodied finesse of this wine, along with its fresh honey and citrus-filled finish, makes it a must-try for any wine enthusiast. Its vivacious character and the sheer energy that it exudes make it one of the best Pavillon Blanc vintages ever.

The 2011 Chateau Margaux Pavillon Blanc is a splendidly balanced wine, rich and fresh with a long-lasting, citrus-filled finish. Its bouquet is tantalizing, offering scents of dried pineapple, vanilla, white peach, and honeysuckle, making it almost irresistible. This delectable white is a testament to the winemaking skills of Chateau Margaux and a true gem of the Bordeaux region.
