Strong scents of anise, sassafras, and lemon candy inform the nose of Dr. Loosen’s 2011 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spatlese, then join fresh orange on a sappy, delicate, pronouncedly sweet palate, leading to a long, luscious finish replete with invigorating crystalline mineral tingle. As with the corresponding Kabinett, Loosen has delivered an unusually animated and bright exemplar of this site and vintage. I suspect it will drink well through at least 2030. - David Schildknecht
