The vines for the two parcels average forty years of age, and there are six barrels of this lovely wine in the Lafon cellars in 2011. The bouquet is deep and very stylish, delivering scents of apple, pear, a touch of hazelnut, deep soil tones and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and round and succulent on the attack, with a good core, sound acids and lovely focus and grip on the long and elegant finish. There is not quite the same mineral drive on the backend here this year that is found in the Clos de la Barre, but this is a lovely wine that should drink very well from early on in its evolution.
