Deep ruby color; dense, tight aromas of dusty cherry and herbs; deep, complex, layered cherry and earthy flavors with herbal notes; some tannin and oak notes; silky texture; good structure and balance; long finish. Dense, tight Pinot that has so many layers just below the surface. Resist the temptation to drink this too early and make sure it has plenty of air when you do decide to drink it.

The deep, dark color matches the deep, rich fruit and oak aromas, and the ripe, resounding dark cherry and cola flavors that follow. This is powerful, full-bodied Pinot Noir for a special occasion, maybe now, but there is no hurry. Should improve through 2020.

Following the ripe and rich model of the Donum brood, this one takes its deep, red cherry fruit in a dried flower direction and adds in notes of hardwoods and darker fruits at its aromatic margins. It is full on the palate to start, and some may find it a bit soft at that point, but its gruff tannins toughen it up and provide a solid backbone that keeps the wine from drifting into slight heaviness. Its "chewy" mouthfeel consigns it to beef or lamb roasts, and the more savory, the better.

The 2011 Pinot Noir Estate Anderson Valley reveals more of the autumnal, meaty, earthy side of Pinot Noir. Its dark plum/purple color is accompanied by hints of cola, underbrush and a primordial foresty note. In the mouth, it is rich, concentrated and complete for a 2011, and achieved 14.3% natural alcohol, which is slightly lower than the Russian River cuvee’s 14.7%. This wine gained interest, nuance and complexity as it sat in the glass as well as incremental richness. This beauty should drink well for 3-5 years. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

A successful 2011 that fills in midpalate, showing a supple texture to the ripe blueberry and wild berry flavors. Ends with firm, snappy tannins and good length. Should gain over the next few years. Drink now through 2023. – JL
