(JD 93-96 points) A knockout 2011 that will compete with, and possibly surpass, the 2010, the 2011 Epoch Estate Wines Authenticity Paderewski Vineyard is a blend of 66% Syrah, 33% Mourvedre, and 1% Viognier (co-fermented with the Syrah) that was aged in roughly 60% new French oak. Deep, layered, and supremely pure, with classic currant, chalky minerality, chocolate, and assorted spice-driven characteristics, it is full-bodied, seamless, and focused on the palate. Shining for its purity and elegance as much as for its depth and richness, this serious 2011 will require a handful of years in the cellar, and drink well for 10-12 years possibly longer.
