The Fontaine family’s parcel of vines in Morgeots lie near the Santenay border, and as is customary with wines from this end of the premier cru, the 2011 is quite a bit more closed and broad-shouldered than the previous premier crus in the lineup. The youthful nose is deep, pure and promising, delivering scents of apple, tart orange, deep soil tones, citrus peel, vanillin oak and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and quite closed, with a very solid core of fruit, sound acids and very good length on the soil-driven and adolescent finish. This will demand a handful of years in the cellar to really blossom and should prove to be quite good in the fullness of time, but forget about opening bottles right out of the blocks! (Drink between 2015-2030)
