This has an attractive Nebbiolo nose of rose, violet, perfumed red berry, baking spices and a whiff of pressed powder. The structured palate delivers red cherry, raspberry, grilled herbs, white pepper, anise and a balsamic note alongside firm, fine-grained tannins and brisk acidity. A hint of mint backs up the finish.

A big, super-sized Barolo, the Brunate is packed with huge dark fruit and equally imposing tannins. The ripeness of the vintage is evident. This is one of the most closed, brooding 2011s I tasted. It will be interesting to see what more time in bottle brings, and especially if a greater element of Brunate typicity emerges over time. -- Antonio Galloni

The 2011 Barolo Brunate is a dark, gutsy expression of Barolo to pair with grilled or roasted meat dishes. There is a tight, slightly austere side to the wine that is reinforced by dark fruit flavors, cola, tar and campfire ash. The wine is firm in structure and long in persistence. - Monica Larner

Wine Spectator, April 2016
This is elegant, with a slight chewiness underscoring the rose, cherry, licorice and tobacco notes. Firms up, with dusty tannins and tar accents lining the finish. Best from 2018 through 2029. – BS
