Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2014

A sleeper selection is the 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Coombsville. The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits terrific fruit on the attack, along with notes of licorice, incense, camphor and crème de...

Wine Spectator, October 2014

An immense, richly flavored and firmly tannic effort, deep and extracted, with chewy dark berry, mocha, crushed rock, cedar and graphite flavors. Ends with a savory, dried herb edge to the tannins. Drink now through 2024...

Kobalt Wines was founded by Kevin Carriker in 1998. With the help of his friend, former-Merus winemaker Mark Herold, he purchased a small vineyard in Coombsville. After a couple of years, again with Mark’s help, Kevin made his first Cabernet Sauvignon.

Kobalt Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) is full-bodied and concentrated with plush tannins.

The winery has used the same vineyards in Coombsville since 2001, with the addition of 15% Stagecoach fruit in the 2013 & 2014 vintages. These vineyard locations are warm and cool down every night, preserving the natural acidity and tannic structure. The must is cold soaked for 48-72 hours and then fermented. Once dry, the Cabernet is aged in 100% new French oak for 22-27 months. All Kobalt wines are unfiltered to preserve the natural intensity of the fruit flavors.
