The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru has a lifted vivacious bouquet with small, dark cherries and raspberry fruit bolstered by the 80% new oak and the 30% whole-cluster fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp, refined entry. There is wonderful purity here and it builds in the mouth towards a succulent, well-defined finish adorned with subtle peppery notes on the aftertaste. This is very fine. The whole clusters are evident as the spice and floral elements are quite pronounced though they do not completely dominate the otherwise cool and pure red berry fruit liqueur suffused nose that is again trimmed in gentle wood. There is a racy intensity to the overtly minerally flavors that possess a lovely natural sweetness that helps to buffer the otherwise youthfully austere, clean and balanced finish. Good stuff that exhibits only mild rusticity.
