The slightly riper nose offers up aromas of black pinot fruit, plum, spice and sandalwood. The intensely mineral-driven flavors possess superb precision and an abundance of underlying tension, all wrapped in a racy, dusty, mouth coating and explosively persistent finish. This is very impressive.

The 2011 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Aux Reignots has dispensed with some of its surliness it demonstrated 12 months previously. Here at the property, it possesses a ripe candied bouquet with hints of aniseed infusing the dark-cherry fruit profile, touches of licorice following suit. The palate is medium-bodied with firm but fine tannins that feel a little bolder than before. It is underpinned by crisp acidity and superb backbone on the convincing finish that suggests it will require several years in bottle. This is impressive. Drink 2017-2030. - Neal Martin

A solid, dark, structured wine with the added attraction of beautifully perfumed fruit. It’s a classic, full in the mouth explosion of red berries, followed by almost refreshing acidity, finishing with a much more tannic character.
