The interesting thing about this vineyard-designated Pinot Noir is that despite its immediate lusciousness, it also has the complexity to age—not a common combination. It’s extraordinarily rich in strawberries, raspberries and pomegranate. Beyond the fruit is an earthiness that suggests mushrooms. The alcohol is refreshingly moderate, the acidity pinpoint perfect. The 2011 vintage is proving to be a great one for Dutton-Goldfield. Drink this wine now through 2023.

A ripe and very fresh nose offers up notes of liqueur-like black cherry and raspberry along with hints of Asian style spice elements. The delicious, intense and well-delineated medium-bodied flavors display fine mid-palate concentration before culminating in a seductively textured finale. There is just enough finishing sweetness that some may find detracts from the overall sense of balance though I underscore that it's subtle.

The leanest, most crisp of the Dutton Goldfield 2011s, this one carries clear red cherry varietal character in a slightly tart style but it avoids any drift into green, narrowness and comes across as a wine that will make a happy companion to lighter veal scallopini dishes and can also be a willing partner to poached salmon.
