A knockout white (as well as an absurd value) that needs to be on everyone's short list of wines to seek out the 2011 Michel Gassier Costières-de-Nîmes Nostre Pais Blanc is a blend of 90% Grenache Blanc 5% Roussanne and 5% Viognier with half being aged and fermented in barrel. It delivers fantastic aromatics of grilled peach citrus and lime-laced qualities supported by richer notions of brioche vanilla and a touch of herb. Every bit as good on the palate with a full-bodied beautifully structured mouth feel that gains richness and depth with air this juicy fresh and very long white needs to be purchased by the case. It will drink well for 3-5 years if not longer.

I know some readers will find it hard to believe but the 2011 Nostre Pais Blanc's aromas and rich honeyed full-bodied texture reminded me of the famous white Chateauneuf du Pape made by Beaucastel which sells for three or more times the price. An amazing blend of 90% Grenache Blanc 5% Roussanne and 5% Viognier aged six months in French oak the Roussanne component jumps from the glass offering notes of acacia flowers honeysuckle white peach quince and pineapple. The flamboyant intense aromatics are followed by a full-bodied exuberant dry white wine that must be tasted to be believed. I suspect this offering has some aging potential but why risk it given how beautiful it is showing at present. I recommend consuming it over the next several years. -Robert Parker

Floral notes combine with nutty cashew lemongrass and lemon zest in the bouquet. Aromas hold true on the palate with the herbal and citrus notes maintaining the focus. The finish is lengthy with the lemon evolving back to the floral and nutty overtones. The mouthwatering acidity is pronounced but balanced by 6 months of French oak aging. Sturdy enough to stand up to a rich cheese-based vegetable casserole as well as grilled or baked poultry. Perfect for the holidays!
