The ripe full-bodied 2011 Rollan de By exhibits lots of black currant cedar and lead pencil shaving characteristics. With good acidity medium to full body and excellent depth it should drink well for a decade. This blend... With good acidity medium to full body and excellent depth it should drink well for a decade. This blend of 70% Merlot 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot (I think I incorrectly had these percentages reversed in my review of the 2009) is a sleeper of the vintage. Proprietor Jean Guyon has been doing a terrific job with all of his estates in the northern Medoc including Rollan de By Tour Seran Haut-Condissas and more recently La Clare. There is also a kosher cuvee of this wine which I did not like as much although it is better than most kosher wines available in the market.

This has good dark plum and mulled cherry fruit with a dusting of spice on the finish. Nice firm tobacco edge adds length.-J.M.

The 45 hectare vineyard is planted to vines with an average age of 35 years at 8500 vines per hectare. Deep red color with sweet ripe dark fruits on the nose and palate. Fairly soft silky and pleasant with just enough structure to back it up. Alain Raynaud consults. Enjoy upon release and over the next 10 years.
