Good to see this estate back in the action. It made a terrific 2001 but has been quiet lately.-J.M.

Full-bodied, medium sweet, dense and layered with gorgeous fruit and length. This is tight and slightly phenolic now, so give it at least five or six years to open – but it’s already beautiful. Try in 2018.

Very pure aromas of sweet peach papaya and passion fruit along with an enticing element of brown spices. Nicely concentrated dense silky wine with sweet ripe flavors of pineapple marzipan and honey. Juicy acidity gives shape and a light touch and extends the firm finish which features a thick creamy suggestion of vanilla and nuts. This is a remarkably good Caillou and could prove one of the sleepers of the vintage even if it won't make old bones. This excellent aperitif-style Sauternes should match well with spicy soups and even white meat dishes with citrus chutneys.

The 2011 Caillou has a light nose of lime cordial and freshly cut Satsumas and it grows in stature with aeration to reveal subtle tropical notes. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous entry that is cut through by a silver thread of acidity rendering the residual sugar barely perceptible. It is extremely taut and focused with a very precise finish. This Barsac second growth has good potential and should drink well over twenty years. Drink 2013-2030.

Beautifully vibrant yellow-gold color. Notes of candied citrus pineapple and spice lead the way on the nose. Loaded with spice ripe stone fruits and citrus notes this has good complexity and wonderful balance. Broad and rich character moderate sweetness is held in check by mouthwatering acidity. Enjoy now through 2025.
