Spicy and dry, this ripe wine is as much about structure as sweetness at this stage. It is dense, packed with acidity and fragrant acacia and wildflower honey. As it opens up, it brings out orange zest and perfumed acidity. Drink from 2019.

The 2011 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey has a very primal nose with dried pineapple, beeswax, a touch of sea spray and wet stone. The palate is medium-bodied with a harmonious, viscous entry and very well-judged acidity that lends tension and poise. There is something more effortless about this 2011 compared to recent vintages, with a tang of marmalade popping up on the finish that is very elegant. Excellent. - Neal Martin
