Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru les Combettes from Jean-Marc Boillot seems to have opened up nicely over the last few months and is not beginning to motor. It has a much more backward nose than its peers, but it gradually opens with linden, orange blossom scents, mineral notes coming through with continued aeration. The palate is crisp and fresh, just a slight bitterness on the entry but following through with quite powerful, intense citric fruit and a long sustain on the finish. It is a superb Puligny Combettes, but you will need patience. - Neal Martin
