I am not sure what the exact blend is for the 2012 Pape Clément, but it has a light gold color and is a gorgeously full-bodied, multi-dimensional wine with great texture in its notes of rose petal, honeysuckle, crystallized/caramelized tropical fruits, mandarin orange and honeyed lemon. Aged 15 months in mostly new French oak, this is another brilliant achievement for proprietor Bernard Magrez from this tiny white wine vineyard, although I would rate it slightly below his perfect 2009. Anticipated maturity: now-2030. - Robert Parker

Fresh wood dominates this powerful, rich wine. It’s developing its fruitiness well, bringing out tropical flavors. A ripe full-blooded, no-holds-barred density suggests a fine future. Drink from 2018.

A fascinating white with dried-apple, pineapple and mango character. Hints of vanilla, too. Full body, fresh acidity and a layered and structured finish. Very serious for the vintage.

(NM92-94 points) Tasted from a barrel sample at en primeur. The 2012 white is a blend of 55% Sauvignon Blanc 30% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Gris cropped at 23-hl/ha between 9th September and 4th October. It has a finely tuned bouquet with expressive Semillon defined the aromatics – melted candle wax and just a hint of ginger. The palate is quite spicy and phenolic on the entry with a suggestion towards the Southern Rhone, with an Oriental, almost Viognier like finish that is very appealing. This will be fascinating in bottle.

A rounded, alluring style, with a rather showy brioche and toasted macadamia nut frame around a core of Jonagold apple, tangerine and peach flavors. The flattering finish is kept honest by a twinge of bitter orange... A rich, flamboyant wine, the 2012 Pape Clément Blanc has a lot to offer. Orange blossoms, ginger, mint, lychee, spices and layers of tropical-infused fruit are super-expressive in the glass. Orange blossoms, ginger, mint, lychee, spices and layers of tropical-infused fruit are super-expressive in the glass. The Blanc is voluptuous, creamy and inviting. Not much is left to the imagination. Drink this unctuous, racy white over the next decade or so.
