The 2012 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur comes from a single block of just over one hectare on a vein of marl and was cropped at just 18 hectoliters per hectare. It has a more austere bouquet than the Vaudesir, but there is a brooding intensity here that suggests that it will demand more patience than that aforementioned grand cru. The palate demonstrates very good weight in the mouth with citrus lemon, a touch of spice and a structured, rather edgy finish that reinforces the need for time. Great potential, but it needs to hunker down in a cellar. Drink 2018-2030. - NEAL MARTIN
