(91+) When the rains were forecast to arrive on September 22nd, the team at Lafleur decided to pick all of the merlot vines destined for the grand vin on the single day of September 21st, but, there was not sufficient...   (91+) When the rains were forecast to arrive on September 22nd, the team at Lafleur decided to pick all of the merlot vines destined for the grand vin on the single day of September 21st, but, there was not sufficient time to harvest the merlot plots that are earmarked for Les Pensées de Lafleur, so these vines were harvested ten days later, after the rain had passed and the vines had had a chance to dry out. The wine has turned out very well indeed, offering up a cool fruit-toned bouquet of cassis, dark berry, currant leaf, cigar smoke, dark, gravelly soil tones, fresh herbs and a discreet base of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and refined, with a lovely core of fruit, suave tannins and excellent length and grip on the focused finish. A very fine bottle in the making. (Drink between 2023-2050)

Intensely aromatic, pure cassis with just a touch of spice and dusty leafiness. Scented more than perfumed. Touch of raspberry in there too. Silky and energised by great freshness. Tannins are very dry and papery but not at all drying. (JH)

Subtle aromas of chocolate, berries and walnuts. Peach stones, too. Full-bodied, chewy and tangy. Clay and orange peel undertones. A little austere. This needs three to four years to soften. Better in 2017.
