Bought by Christian Moreau’s great-great-grandfather at the Hospices de Chablis in 1904, this parcel lies within the Grand Cru of Les Clos. It’s a superrich Chablis of great density and concentration. Spice, apricots and intense citrus provide the hallmarks of a wine for long aging. Drink from 2019. - RV

A ripe and fresh nose of pear, apple, tidal pool and soft citrus aromas are still quite youthful. There is serious power to the big-bodied, intense and extract-rich flavors, indeed the mouth feel is almost chewy, all wrapped in a highly persistent and distinctly saline finish. This excellent effort is still very much on the way up and will need at least another 4 to 5 years to reach its full maturity.

This wine was tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Chablis Grand Cru les Clos des Hospices has a complex bouquet with potent flint and smoke aromas that are very well delineated. The palate is fresh and poised, and there is superb tension here and focus; it is backward but with great precision and penetration on the finish that sticks in the memory. This is just a wonderful, effervescent, tensile Chablis Grand Cru. - Neal Martin

Though rich and densely textured, this lemon-, melon- and spice-flavored white has a spine of vibrant acidity. Deceptively balanced, this seems approachable now but should develop well over the next decade. Best from 2016 through 2026. 102 cases imported. –BS
