Just a step behind the Sainte Epine, the 2012 St Joseph Cuvee Francois de Tournon exhibits classic black raspberry, cassis, spiced meats and hints of licorice in its ripe, supple and beautifully pure profile. Aged 16 months in 30% new and 70% in 2- to 3-year-old barrels, it has medium to full-bodied richness, integrated acidity and building tannin. Drink it anytime over the coming decade. - Jeb Dunnuck

The black tea, iron and steeped plum and blackberry fruit notes are well-formed already, with enough taut graphite and charcoal elements on the finish to merit short-term cellaring. Rock-solid. Sexy, mineral-tinged cherry and red berry scents are complicated by vanilla and woodsmoke. Sweet and energetic, offering juicy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that become livelier and sweeter with air. A suave violet pastille quality comes up on the nervy finish, which shows very good clarity and smooth tannins. -- Josh Raynolds

Expressive aromas of dark fruits are laced with spice and backed by hints of smoke. Ripe yet terrifically pure, with dark red fruit, smoked meats, anise and stone in a complex package. Round and suave with a wonderful texture, smooth tannins provide grip on the long, precise finish. This continues to expand and develop in the glass as a touch of graphite and incense enhances the complexity of the fruit. Another winner from Delas, this beauty can be enjoyed now and over the next 7-10 years.

Winery

Delas Freres

Founded in 1835 by Charles Audibert and Phillipe Delas, the celebrated Delas Freres winery grows 30 hectares of vines comprising 10 hectares in Hermitage (including the Domaines des Tourettes estate), 2 hectares in Saint-Joseph, and 18 hectares in Crozes-Hermitage.

In addition to the grapes produced by Delas' own wine growing team, Delas' close relationships with like-minded owner-winegrowers ensure that the company is able to source grapes grown on individual parcels, which reflect their own unique terroir.

Exclusively a family-owned operation for over a century, Delas Freres joined forces with Champagne Deutz in 1977. In 1993, Deutz and Delas Freres were approached by the Rouzaud family, majority shareholder in the Roederer Group. They joined the Roederer Group under whose umbrella Delas' philosophy continues to flourish.
