Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes has a very fragrant, intoxicating nose thanks to its unbridled purity and delineation. Here is pure pinoté in all its unfettered glory. The palate is very well balanced, perhaps "classic" in style thanks to a touch of leafiness, although there is plenty of substance on the finish with the red fruit interlaced with Earl Grey tea and bay leaf. Lovely wine, just lovely - this surpasses the bottle I tasted a few months ago.- NM
