Charming smoky hints on the nose, then a really sudden expansive red fruit on the palate. Lots of potential here, but it needs time for the flavours to meld properly. Soft tannins, so not for the longer term. 17+/20 (RH)

The 2012 Gevrey Chambertin from the talented Arnaud Mortet seemed a little bashful on the nose, but with aeration it reveals attractive blackberry and wild strawberry scents that are well defined, just a touch of sous-bois with further opening. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded ripe tannin, plenty of bold dark cherry and raspberry fruit that exerts a gentle grip. The acidity is well judged here and there is a finesse on the finish above Village Cru quality. This is simply excellent. - Neal Martin

On the nose there are notes of currant and raspberries, as well of hints of leather, jasmine, forest floor and pine trees. This medium bodied wine displays wonderful bright acidity, delicious ripe fruit and fine minerality. Drink 2015-2025.
