As there is decidedly more Champans chez Lafon in 2012, the vinification was no doubt much easier in this very short vintage, and the wine is really an utterly classic example. The deep, elegant and very sappy nose jumps from the glass in a blend of black cherries, cassis, incipient notes of gamebird, woodsmoke, currant leaf and a marvelously complex base of soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very suave on the attack, with a sappy core, outstanding soil drive, fine-grained, almost velvety tannins and beautiful length and grip on the very special finish. This is an outstanding wine in the making.
