Cool aromas of blueberry, blackberry and licorice. The palate offers penetrating clarity and sappy acidity, with intense dark berry and spice flavors complicated by saline and leather nuances. Quite tight and youthfully imploded today but brisk and persistent on the aftertaste.

I very much like the sense of tension here. Beams of acidity and minerality support a core of bright red fruit, crushed flowers, tobacco, chalk and smoke. The 2012 is at once racy and tightly wound, with plenty of potential for the future, but it will require some bottle age to fully come together.

(WA88-90 points) The 2012 Nuits Saint Georges Les Lavieres comes from two parcels in the lieu-dit “Bas Combes”. It has a fragrant bouquet: the fruit a tinge blacker than the Vosne-Romanee with blackcurrant joining the chorus line. The oak is neatly integrated but present. The palate is taut and fresh on the entry. It does not possess great depth like many a Lavieres, but it displays a vibrant citric finish that lends vigor and freshness. This will probably be earlier drinking than other 2012 from Grivot. - Neal Martin

Slightly reserved on the nose at first, with notes of dried cranberries, sage, turmeric and a touch of allspice. Begins to blossom with a bit of air and time in the glass and reveals some good potential of where this can go with some age under its belt. This medium bodied wine has a lot of youthful tension as a result of the vibrant acidity that is a wonderful partner to the red fruit driven palate. This wine is still in its infancy but it should be a joy to see how this evolves over the next several years. Best between 2020 – 2030.
