(95+) The 2012 Bâtard-Montrachet from the Drouhin family is a brilliant example of the vintage, soaring from the glass in a magical mélange of buttered pears and apples, a touch of almond paste, a very, very complex base of chalky soil tones, spring flowers, lemon zest and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and juicy on the attack, with a rock solid core of fruit, with fine underlying minerality, vibrant acid and a very, very long, elegant and nascently complex finish. A great bottle of Bâtard-Montrachet in the making, that is structurally accessible out of the blocks (due to its superb and seamless balance), but which will be even better with a few years of bottle age.
