Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Mazoyères Chambertin Grand Cru from Maume-Tawse has a slightly disjointed nose at first, takes time to tuck its shirt in, but it is worth the wait because it reveals attractive, very natural and harmonious brambly red fruit, particularly raspberry and cranberry, both suffused with palpable tension. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin, complete and harmonious, focused and very elegant. This is a truly wonderful contribution to the vintage with impressive terroir and winemaking skill. - Neal Martin
