(90-92 points) The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Au Closeau has a very attractive ‘bonbons’ bouquet – like walking into a sweet shop – very pure and fragrant. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, ripe tannins. There is plenty of redcurrant and Morello fruit, a nice build into the mouth towards a harmonious, slightly chewy finish. This is a little showy, but enjoyable. - Neal Martin

(89-91) An expressive nose mixes wood spice with fresh, cool and pretty red and blue pinot fruit, earth and a hint of underbrush. There is good verve and richness to the medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a slightly less austere and balanced finish where a touch of the sauvage surfaces.

(17.5/20) Mid purplish cherry. A real distinctive wine in terms of its style: ripe and spicy, fragrant, dark fruit. Similar on the palate, with a savoury, tannic finesse. Mouthwatering and gripping at the same time but there's the fruit to create an elegant though powerful long termer. (JH)
