Chenevottes can be so beautiful and floral right out of the blocks in inherently elegant vintages like 2012, and the Fontaine-Gagnard example this year is exactly that! The beautiful bouquet jumps from the glass in a blend of apple, tangerine, lemon blossoms, a beautifully complex base of soil and a judicious framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and succulent, with a fine core, crisp acids, fine focus and grip and a long, refined and elegant finish. Normally there are only two barrels of Chenevottes each year in the Fontaine’s cellars, but this year there is only this lonely piéce of truly outstanding wine. This too is going to be absolutely delicious to drink from the outset.
