(RP93-95 points) The 2012 Chardonnay Stone Cote Vineyard (a block within the Durell Vineyard planted on gravelly riverbed soils) is 100% barrel-fermented and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Made from a combination of Old Wente clones and some of the newer Chardonnay clones, it exhibits a terrific wet rock/powdered stone-like minerality along with beautiful aromas of exotic fruits (mangoes and tangerines), great intensity, full body, terrific acidity, and 14.8% alcohol. This beautiful Burgundian-styled Chardonnay should be enjoyed over the next 7-8 years. - Robert Parker

(AG91-93 points) Hartford's 2012 Chardonnay Stone Côte Vineyard is bright, saline and beautifully focused in the glass. Dried pear, spices, orange peel and wild flowers all take shape as the wine shows off its personality. Today, though, the 2012 is a bit raw and not fully formed, but that should be less of an issue once the wine is bottled. The Stone Côte emerges from a parcel in Durrell.

An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes fresh melon, white peach and smoky lees, with a hint of lemon curd adding lift. Open-knit honeydew and pit fruit flavors are given spine by tangy acidity and complemented by suggestions of buttered toast and minerals. Plump, weighty and broad on the powerful finish, with the peachy note repeating.

Bright lemon citrus approaching orange citrus, citrus blossom, and lemon meringue on the nose. Juicy and opulent from start to finish on the palate with rich citrus flavors, a touch of pineapple, and a subtle, buttered caramel edge. Plenty of acidity to keep this delicious Chardonnay moving across the palate. Displays an Old World sensibility in its citrus fruit profile, yet packs a New World punch in its weighty mid-palate and balanced oak and lees flavors. Hedonistic now, and will definitely improve over the next 5-10 years.
