jebdunnuck.com, December 2017

The 2012 from Larcis Ducasse is a stunner, and not far from the otherworldly 2005. Made from 83% Merlot and 17% Cabernet Franc, this sensational 2012 offers a gorgeous bouquet of ripe black cherries, blackcurrants, cedary...

This shows so much class and balance with blackberry and mushroom character. Some wet earth. It makes you want to drink it! Fine and ripe tannins. Gorgeous. Drink in 2018.

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, May 2013

(NM93-95 points) The Larcis-Ducasse is a blend of 83% Merlot and 17% Cabernet Franc picked on 11th-18th October and 18th October respectively, cropped at 28hl/ha. The nose is very complete even at this primal stage with...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2015

This great terroir, long owned by the Gratiot family, has come to life under the inspired winemaking of Nicolas Thienpont and Stéphane Derenoncourt. Some recent vintages have been legendary efforts, especially 2005, 2008...

Wine Enthusiast, April 2013

(WE92-94 points) Newly promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé in 2012, this is a fine, concentrated wine, showing great style. It has weight and a delicious juiciness that is sustained by firm, dry tannins. Already a...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, March 2017

Holding a lot in reserve, flowers, chocolate covered cherries, plum and licorice are right there, if you know where to look. Soft, polished tannins and a ripe, pit fruit filled complete the wine. Read more...

The Wine Independent, February 2023

The 2012 Larcis Ducasse is medium to deep garnet colored. Bright notes of redcurrant jelly, Morello cherries, and stewed plums jump from the glass, followed by hints of cinnamon toast and potpourri. Full-bodied with soft...

Wine Spectator, March 2015

Dark and winey, with steeped currant, macerated plum and warm boysenberry coulis flavors, laced with licorice snap and roasted apple wood notes. The charcoal edge is buried on the finish, with a lingering minerality. Lots...

Vinous, September 2022

The 2012 Larcis Ducasse has a simple nose with blackberry and raspberry fruit, good concentration though it needs a little more delineation, which actually develops with a few minutes in the glass. The palate is...

Chateau Larcis-Ducasse is a Premier Grand Cru Classe B estate in the Saint-Emilion AOC of Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Already extremely popular and highly sought-after in the 16th century, Larcis Ducasse’s wines have continued to garner praise into the 21st century. It’s ownership has been in the same family since 1893.

Chateau Larcis-Ducasse’s 11 hectares of closely-grouped blocks occupies the tip of the famous Cote Pavie hill, west of Chateau Pavie and north of Chateau Troplong Mondot. The vineyards enjoy a fully south-facing position and are planted with 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc. Soil types range from alluvial sand deposits, to limestone, clay and chalk. The vines average 35 years of age.

Since 2002, Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt have led a new winemaking team. They have worked to further increase wine quality, investing considerably in the vineyard and cellar. They combine traditional methods with innovative techniques to complement the flavors of the land. Among the changes have been a new drainage system for the vineyard and an extended harvest that picks over several weeks as the various blocks become ready.

Chateau Larcis-Ducasse’s terroir produces wonderfully ripe grapes which result in complex, well-structured wines with fresh fruit and mineral flavors. These characteristics are, in part, attributable to the different bedrocks found on the property, from the limestone of the plateau to the iron-rich feldspar sand at the base of the slope.

Viticultural methods are as natural as possible. Yields are kept low in the vineyard were grape varieties were planted according to soil type. In the cellar, grapes undergo a gentle maceration to avoid over-extraction. Vinification takes place in concrete tanks with no pump-over. After fermentation, the wine is aged in barrel for eighteen months.
