A truly excellent wine. Just a baby. Screw cap. Give it another three years. But love now.

Powerful, oak-tinged blackberry, cherry, candied rose, cured tobacco and mocha scents, accompanied by succulent herb and mineral flourishes. Sappy and seamless on the palate, offering densely packed but energetic bitter cherry, dark berry, mocha and licorice flavors that unfurl slowly. Youthful tannins shape a very long, sweet finish, which features resonating spice, mineral and floral pastille notes. This wine's energy and balance suggest that it will enjoy a long, smooth evolution in bottle. -- Josh Raynolds

(91+) An impressive showing, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Art Series is deep garnet-purple in color with menthol, dried herbs, creme de cassis and black forest cake notes. The palate possesses a medium to full-body with good concentration and a firm, chewy structure and great freshness, finishing long and pure.

This seems to have a slightly bordelais rather than Aussie accent. It's restrained and refreshing with fine tannins on the end. No hurry at all to drink this. The finish is impressively long and neat. There's nothing remotely exhibitionistic about this.

Leeuwin Estate

Leeuwin Estate is a family-owned Australian winery and one of the five founding wineries in the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia. Formerly a cattle ranch, the property was converted to vineyards by Denis and Tricia Horgan upon the advice of legendary Napa Valley winemaker Robert Mondavi when he visited Australia and saw the estate’s potential as being ideal for the production of premium wines.

The estate enjoyed its first commercial vintage in 1979 and was quickly thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter Magazine gave its highest recommendation to the 1980 "Art Series" Chardonnay. Leeuwin now exports to 30 markets. The estate releases wines under the Art Series, Prelude Vineyards and Siblings labels.

Celebrating the combination of fine wine, food, art and music, Leeuwin features an award winning restaurant, cellar door and art gallery. The estate is renowned for staging spectacular events and welcoming visitors from around the world.
